Throughout the decade that I practiced Emergency Medicine, I managed the healthcare of acquaintances outside the ER: an uncle dieting to manage his blood sugar, my mom’s coworker feeling dismissed by her GYN for her pelvic pain, our handyman being unable to navigate his insurance to get a back brace, etc. I was acting as an advocate, researcher, organizer, explainer for those around me as it relates to their health. I filled the same roles for my family as I got older. If this was a need for my friends and family, it had to be a need for more people. That was the genesis of Gen By Gen.
